LucasArts shuttered by Disney

Originally reported by Kotaku, around 150 people have been laid off from LucasArts as Disney has reportedly shut down the entire development company and cancelled both Star Wars 1313 and the downloadable title Star Wars: First Assault.

“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”

After Disney acquired the studio, LucasArts was immediately put on lock down in regards to hiring and product announcements. Disney will be looking to use the LucasArts name to license games from this point on.
