Elgato unveils Game Capture HD60

By Kevin Mitchell Posted on August 11, 2014

Today Elgato has announced their next-generation capture device, Elgato Game Capture HD60, which will be exclusive to BestBuy. Going after the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 crowd, the HD60 will be able to capture full 1080p resolution at a blazing 60fps. With H.264 hardware encoding for incredibly smooth footage and both PC and Mac support, Elgato is looking to dethrone AverMedia. AverMedia released their 1080p/60fps device at the beginning of the year. Unlike the ExtremeCap U3, which required USB 3.0 to get the most out of it, it appears the Game Capture HD60 will be able to do everything through the well-supported USB 2.0.

“The Game Capture HD60 features a new slimmer and sleeker design as well as a host of additional functionality, including 1080p60 capture for true high-definition recording and playback as well as our unique Stream Command interface allowing for greater creativity and customization of streams.”

Adam Steinberg, Vice President, Marketing for Elgato

The newly designed piece of hardware is less than an inch thick, and has been built with a soft-touch surface and improved LEDs. The user interface in the Elgato Game Capture 2.0 software has been refined, and the improved Stream Command feature will result in a better live streaming experience, allowing you change streaming layouts on the fly. The Flashback Recording feature ensures you don’t miss anything, allowing you to slide back in time and hit the record button retroactively. The best feature of the Elgato Game Capture HD60, allows you to live stream and capture high quality footage simultaneously.

Currently available on BestBuy.com for pre-order, the Elgato Game Capture HD60 will cost $179.99, and will be in stores nationwide on August 15. The Elgato Game Capture HD 2.0 software is a free download from egato.com/gaming/download and supports the original Elgato Game Capture HD.
