Adam Jensen returns whether he asked for it or not and finds himself on the Nintendo Wii U for the first time ever. According to the press release Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut (coming in 2014) will feature visual improvements, overhauled boss fights, reinforced combat mechanics and more.
Wii U Difference
The Wii U’s GamePad will play an integral part games mechanics, allowing for more precise hacking minigames as well as giving players easy access to their inventory. One of the coolest additions lets players write notes on the radar, which is now a hybrid of the original radar and the 2D Map using the touch screen. No longer will you have to remember where initially unreachable items are when backtracking through areas. The entire game will also be able to be played on the GamePad, cutting out the need for a TV.
New Modes and Features
Besides the new features using the touch screen on the GamePad, the Director’s Cut will also feature a ton of new gameplay elements that were sorely lacking in the original release. The one that caught my eye was the inclusion of a New Game + mode allowing you to replay the game, while keeping all of Jensen’s augmentations. The Director’s Cut will feature an enhanced lighting system, smoother shadows and anti-aliasing.
For the Fans
A feature that you would more likely find in a DVD instead of game, the Director’s Cut will feature 8 hours of director’s commentary, providing background information into the creation and production of the game. Although the Wii U lacks a system wide achievement system, Eidos Montreal will be including a complete in-game achievement system. Left-Handed? Eidos has you covered with multi control layout variations, although I don’t see why they don’t just make it completely customizable. English, French, Italian, German and Spanish are available in both voice and subtitles.
New Boss Fights
Boss fights have been entirely redesigned to fit better within the core mechanics of the game. Originally they were nothing more than glorified firefights. Bosses will be able to be defeated without ever firing a single bullet.
