Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel announcement

In a somewhat surprising move, EA has announced another sequel in the Army of Two series. This one, named Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel, has plans to be set in Mexico dealing with the current and bloody drug war occurring near the border. The duo that from the TWO corporation will be stuck dealing with backstabbing partners and a whole army of Mexican cartel members.

EA, with Visceral Games, are putting out this new and re-imagined Army of Two that they say will be more ‘intense’ and carry a grittier tone versus the last 2 entries, which even then had some definite violence even in comparison to other titles. Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel is still planned to be a cooperative format, having the players rely on each other or on the AI if alone.

The first two games in the series are well known on the Xbox 360 (and PS3), but weren’t hugely accepted by the masses. The first suffered from a variety of bugs and the second had a very mediocre feel to it, like an action movie falling somewhat flat. However, executive producer Julian Beak at Visceral Games said Thursday in a statement, “We wanted to refresh the ‘Army of Two‘ franchise for a new generation of action gamers, and at the same time, stay true to the core concept that really made the first two games fan favorites.”

The game is currently slated for a March 2013.
